how i learned to love the plague

Oh, my dear family from the midwest.  How I respect that you wish to stand tall with your sister in her time of need.  I welcome you into our home not as guests but full-fledged members of the household with all attending duties & privileges.

But don’t you dare tack your “Jesus will make everything better” bullshit all over my refrigerator.  I am a tolerant man, but foolishness of that magnitude I will not abide.

This woman is going to die, like all of us will some day.  Please do not mire us in the stupidity of a fantasy about Cool Whip clouds & a Caucasian deity with sunglasses.

Does it serve her children? No.  They deserve the truth.  Not some idiotic religious rhetoric concerning how our actions on this planet pale in comparison to the grandiose scheme of an anonymous god.

They deserve to know that this “god” is not killing their mother.

A steady diet of cigarettes, liquor, diet coke, & fast food is doing her in.

Someday they will have children of their own.  My nieces & nephews.

Driftwood bearing my DNA in the sea of humanity.

They must understand or this was all for naught.

It would appear that the strong Latter Day Saints presence in Utah has exacerbated the divide between people who do not share faiths in Salt Lake City.  Their particular brand of Christianity (which I find even more bizarre than the other varieties) is rather extreme in its subjugation of women & homosexuals.  Aspects of daily life are intruded upon by the Church & many city ordinances & state laws cater to the organization.  Advertising on television, in print ads, & on billboards is common & a vital element in their proselytizing mission to convert others.
These atheists pictured are using the small amount of media they possess to send a message that Utah is not just for the flock of cultists  who follow Joseph Smith & Brigham Young.  They represent the idea that majority rule is unacceptable & dissent will ensue if pressure to conform becomes too intrusive to ignore.
A therapy group for rational people in the final frontier of religious absurdism.
They meet for coffee every Thursday night.
